The
searches that I did involved searching for information that pertained to my
topic of romance novels and women’s enjoyment of them. I researched sources
using the databases from my school website; the sources I found included three articles
and two books. One book was an anthology. I determined if the texts were
scholarly by clicking on the scholarly texts icon in the databases; this gave
me sources that were scholarly. I used all scholarly sources, and they were all
the full text. I read the articles and made an outline of the important
information in the text. I made sure to note anything that was interesting or
could be very helpful for me towards my research. I paraphrased some quotes
because they had information that I found to be useful on my topic. Effective note-taking
helped me to understand the authors’ arguments because I only made notes on
information that would help me provide information/details for my research
paper. The main ideas for the articles or books that I read seemed to provide
information for the topic I have chosen to write about. I found all of the
sources that I read to have very interesting information, most of which I would
like to use in my paper.
Problems
that I faced during the research process were finding time to be able to thoroughly
read each of my sources and take effective notes. I felt that I rushed into
reading the sources; I need to slow down and redo some of my annotated
bibliography because I feel that I did not provide a good description of some
of the source. I feel that I did a crappy/sloppy job on it, and I would like to
redo (edit) it to make it appear better. I want it to show the hard work that I
have put into doing this research and taking notes. Through my research, I have narrowed my topic
down to include the genre paranormal romance novels. I have information on why
females enjoy romance novels, specifically paranormal ones. The research I have
done has given me some interesting information about this “subtopic.” I found
it interesting that females use the paranormal romance novels as a way to seek
emotional nurturance that is not received in their every day lives. They also
use the novels as a way to relax after a hard day.
I feel
that my annotated bibliography is a good resource for others to use if they
want to know more information about romance novels and such. I feel that my
annotated bibliography can be very helpful, even though it does need some
revision. I rushed in reading sources to write the bibliography. I need to
reread and write a better bibliography for people to use. I know that I worked hard on the one that I have created
already, but I feel like it does not reflect my best work, or even what I am capable
of accomplishing. Once I have a chance to reread the sources I rushed through
or did not fully read, I will be able to write a better and more effective
annotated bibliography.
